Chapter History
Monroe Alumnae Chapter Meeting, November 1959, at the home of Soror Lucille Toston, one of
the first initiates.
In 1955, there were not any graduate chapters of any Greek Letter organization in Monroe and the surrounding areas. There were many sorors in the immediate geographic area with different career paths but having one common bond: the Delta spirit. On February 14,1955, at the home of Soror Arnetta Pierce Winters, 12 sorors met to complete an application to charter a chapter in Monroe.
The chapter was granted a charter dated March 25, 1955. Originally chartered as Epsilon Iota Sigma Chapter; in 1958, according to prevailing nomenclature of Grand Chapter, the name was changed to Monroe Alumnae Chapter. On the charter application, the charter members identified Monroe, LA as the location of the chapter, with a description on the charter application that included the service area as a 35-mile radius of Monroe. The original service area therefore was recognized to be Ouachita (Monroe/West Monroe); and the parishes of Morehouse (Bastrop), Richland (Rayville); and Caldwell (Columbia).
Today we currently serve the original area as well as Franklin (Winnsboro); Madison (Tallulah), East and West Carroll (Lake Providence, Oak Grove) parishes. As of 2023, one charter member still lives in the city. There have been over 220 initiates.
